The school is on the west side of Sixth Avenue between 59th Street and 60th Street. St. Ephrem Catholic Academy is a mile south of Our Lady of  Perpetual Help, but this does not help those residing north of OLPH.

On 9.4.2025, St. Ephrem's annouced it has picked up 65 students from OLPH, raising the enrollment at St. Ephrem to 240.

Mergers effective June 30, 2011:
1) St. John the Evangelist with St. Rocco.
2) Our Lady of Mercy with Our Lady of Presentation (which already absorbed Our Lady of Loreto)
3) Holy Family, Greenpoint, with St. Anthony of Padua (which already absorbed St. Alphonsus)

St. Agatha, Sunset Park

St. Agatha's church is on the northeast corner of 48th Street and Seventh Avenue in the Sunset Park neighborhood. The parish address is 702 48th Street, Brooklyn NY 11220, telephone 718-439-1080. The parish website is linked HERE.

The parish school is located at 736 48th Street, Brooklyn NY, telephone 718-435-3137. The websites are linked here and here. As of 2.7.2017, the school website makes no mention of this unwelcome story of possible closure of the school.

St. Michael, Fourth Avenue and 42 St., Sunset Park

The parish of St. Michael was established in 1870, and this imposing church was built in 1905, under the direction of architect Raymond J. Almirall. The view looks north, with the former high school and the church taking up the block from 43rd St. to 42nd Street on the west side of Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sunset Park

The basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help faces Fifth Avenue at the corner of 60th Street, Brooklyn. The mailing address for the rectory is 526 59th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220. The website is HERE, with presentations in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese, as Sunset Park has once again become a community of immigrants. The street on the sunny side of the church is 60th Street. When the parish was established in 1893, this was the border (or City Line) of the City of Brooklyn. On July 1, 1894, Brooklyn annexed the Town of New Utrecht, that is, Bay Ridge, and several other neighborhoods to the south and east.

Both in the 1960's when I visited this church and again in February, 2009, the upstairs church was locked. My earlier visit found in the downstairs church a novena service with a relic. This year, Father John O'Connor was being waked.

The New York Public Library digital collection provides the results of aerial photography of the entire city in 1924. This link shows the site of the Basilica at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 60th Street, just north of the tracks of the New York Connecting Railroad. However, I am puzzled whether the Basilica was complete then, as the photo does not seem to show the 2009 outline of the building.
