St. Blaise, Kingston Avenue

Because today, February 3, is the feast of St. Blaise, a bishop-martyr in Armenia, I looked around for a photo of the church of St. Blaise that was merged into that of St. Francis of Assisi in 1980.  The parish of St. Blaise was established in 1908 as an Italian national parish.  The photo at this link shows the breaking of ground for a new building in 1954.

The Brooklyn Library Digital Collection offers many photographs, but the links seem to "time out."  You then have to reenter the search word, in this case the word blaise.
The church was at 520 Kingston Avenue between Maple and Woodward Midwood Streets. I wonder whether the Horeb Seventh Day Adventist church seen there on Google Street View is the 1954 church of St. Blaise.

Yes. Today, 10.21.2018, Deacon John Lynch confirmed that the 1954 church of St. Blaise is the Horeb SDA.

St. Matthew, Crown Heights

The parish of St. Matthew, Crown Heights, has three churches: St. Matthew on Eastern Parkway near Utica Avenue, St. Gregory the Great at Brooklyn Avenue and St. John's Place (that is, a mile west of St. Matthew), and Our Lady of Charity on Dean Street (that is, eight blocks north of St. Matthew).  The parish address is 1123 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn NY 11213, telephone 718-774-6747.

St. Gregory the Great, Crown Heights

In 2011, the parish of St. Gregory the Great was merged into St. Matthew's parish about a mile east, on Eastern Parkway near Utica Avenue. The decree states that the church of St. Gregory the Great will remain a worship site for St. Matthew's parish.

The cornerstone declares that this extraordinary church was built in 1915. This photo was taken on August 20, 2008. To the left is St. John's Place. At the right is Brooklyn Avenue, one-way southbound. Conveniently, the B45 bus on St. John's Place stops at this intersection, as does the southbound B43.

From the parish bulletin, it would seem that this parish is now entrusted to the Society of Mary, s.m., or Marist Society.
