Two more elementary closures

Please see the press release dated 7.9.2020 HERE.
The two closures in the borough of Brooklyn are Queen of the Rosary, Williamsburg, and St. Gregory the Great.
Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy has occupied 11 Catherine Street (former St. Nicholas Commercial High School) in East Williamsburg for several years. The academy was Our Lady of Mount Carmel school "on the move."
In similar fashion, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Academy moved from its location on St. John's Place to the property of Holy Cross parish on Church Avenue a distance away.

Five more Catholic Academies

These items are gleaned from a diocesan press release issued 1.30.2012. The surprise on the list is that St. Gregory the Great School is listed as Flatbush, at Holy Cross, 2520 Church Avenue.  Current N-8 enrollments (that is, enrollments inflated by nursery-level students) are also given.
Parish schools becoming Catholic academies are:
St. Brigid, Wycoff Heights, 207 students.
St. Francis of Assisi, Lefferts Prospect Gardens, 351 students.
St. Frances Cabrini (at St. Joseph Patron, Suydam Street), 280 students.
St. Gregory the Great (at 2520 Church Avenue to allow repairs at 991 St. John's Place), 232 students.
St. Saviour Elementary, Park Slope, 401 students.  Note that the parish also has St. Saviour HS.

St. Gregory the Great, Crown Heights

In 2011, the parish of St. Gregory the Great was merged into St. Matthew's parish about a mile east, on Eastern Parkway near Utica Avenue. The decree states that the church of St. Gregory the Great will remain a worship site for St. Matthew's parish.

The cornerstone declares that this extraordinary church was built in 1915. This photo was taken on August 20, 2008. To the left is St. John's Place. At the right is Brooklyn Avenue, one-way southbound. Conveniently, the B45 bus on St. John's Place stops at this intersection, as does the southbound B43.
