Cristo Rey, Brooklyn

Cristo Rey High School, at 710 East 37th Street, East Flatbush, is celebrating its Tenth Year in Brooklyn. It describes its location "In the heart of Brooklyn." I would consider Brooklyn's Borough Hall, or the main public library, or Holy Cross parish, Flatbush, more in the heart of Brooklyn, but slogans are slogans.

The school uses the former Catherine McCauley HS building, located seven short blocks east of the Newkirk Avenue station of the #2 and #5 Nostrand Avenue subway train.

St. Therese of Lisieux, East Flatbush

The parish of St. Therese of Lisieux stands of the south side of Avenue D in East Flatbush, with the school on the left (east) of the photo and the church to the right (west).  The school extends south on East 45th Street, and the church and rectory extend south on Troy Avenue.
----
The rectory address is 1281 Troy Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11203, telephone 718-451-1500.  The parish website is linked here.  The parish was established in 1926, and the school opened in 1941.

A portrait honors Venerable Pierre Toussaint (1766-1853).  The relic below the portrait is some earth from his grave.

As shown above, the parish school is now the site of St. Catherine of Genoa - St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Academy.  The academy's address is 4410 Avenue D, Brooklyn NY 11203, telephone 718-629-9330.  Its website is linked here.

Along Avenue D, the B8 bus serves the church and academy on its way from 18th Avenue to Brownsville.

Two more Catholic academies in Brooklyn

Please see Msgr. Harrington's announcement dated March 1, 2011, linked here.  It describes the creation of one Catholic academy in Queens and two in Brooklyn.  In Brooklyn, Salve Regina Catholic Academy (that is, elementary school) will be formed from the merger of three schools: St. Michael, St. Rita, and St. Sylvester. Salve Regina will use the St. Michael building at Jerome Street and Liberty Avenue, East New York.
----
The East Flatbush merger concerns St. Catherine of Genoa school moving to St. Therese of Lisieux parish on Avenue D near Troy Avenue.  The combined elementary school will be named St. Catherine of Genoa - St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Academy.
----
The announcement from Msgr. Harrington does not provide current enrollment numbers for the Brooklyn mergers.
